ordinary life: bildungsroman
digital photography by Alison Kopp
artist statement
Alison Kopp (alternately, “annett positive”) is a local poet and casual spoken word performer. She was invited to participate in “ordinary life” for the content of her work by another artist, and has since been delighted to collect images of what she interpreted as “ordinary life.” Alison engages emotional dysfunction, interpersonal relationships (and their myriad dissolutions), substance use/abuse/dependency and their consequences from a personal and introspective perspective in both her visual and written work. Alison’s/annett’s ordinary life is a narrative, like many others, of reckless youth and ephemeral intimacy and experimentation, told through cell phone cameras and social media, an exploration of human memory in new digital, often public, permanence. She hopes that her pieces remind viewers of the importance of connection and being honest with oneself.
