A View from the Ground

I have lived in Rochester for 4 years. Been taking pictures for 10 years.
I capture moments of the world around me sometimes beautiful other times ugly but all special to me in some way. Taking pictures has also gave me the courage to go to the unknown. To step out that door and look at life thru a lens. That is something I will never give up.
Photography also means taking risks some of these pictures in this show were taken with 35mm film. A new medium for me. The thing I learned threw out the year of taking pictures with old film cameras is the focus on what's in front of me nothing else. With digital cameras, I check settings all the time and take lots of test shots, with film I have to be more deliberate when I squeeze that shutter. Look at that light meter and then push. There are no second chances you either got the shot or you don't. Something about that is comforting in a world of advanced technology, that there are some things that are simple.
I have entered photographs that I felt were interesting. Most are not perfect. This was in the spirit of being spontaneous and experimental. These locations All mean something dear to me in my everyday life as I walk the streets, bike the trails, and ride mass transit through the city in a time frame of an entire year.
Enjoy.
